Johannes X. Schachtner worked as a freelance conductor and composer after completing his studies in composition and orchestral conducting in Munich and scholarships in Bamberg and Paris.

He conducted orchestras such as the Kremerata Baltica, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra or the original sound ensemble Concerto Munich as well as numerous ensembles in the field of new music.
