Saule Buikaite (b. 2002) is a Lithuanian violinist. At seven, she started playing the violin and entered the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, initially in fine arts before switching to music. She studied with I. Gylytė and U. Jagelaitė during her school years (2009-2021), and in 2025 completed her Bachelor’s under Prof. Rūta Lipinaitytė at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
Fond of various forms of music-making, Saule is no stranger to folk, improvisation, and klezmer, and has been a member of a klezmer ensemble since age 13. For the past few years, she has been performing in a piano trio and string quartet, participating in ECMA sessions, festivals, and competitions; in one of them, she won both the Grand Prix and 1st prize (23rd International Lithuanian Composers’ Chamber Music Performance Competition, 2024).
Her achievements include a letter of gratitude from President D. Grybauskaitė, the Little St. Christopher Award for promoting the city of Vilnius, 1st prizes at the Stockholm Music Competition (2018; 2020), Baltic Strings Competition-Festival (2022; 2024), Grand Prix at the International E. Mikeladze Competition (2021). Saule has tried her luck in the International J. Heifetz competition in Vilnius twice, both times advancing to the second round (2021; 2025).
Since 2019, Saule has been a member of the Muzika visiems (Eng. Live Music Now) project, performing chamber music for the less fortunate in places like hospitals, orphanages, soup kitchens. She won scholarships from the Antanas Smetona (2023) and Kazimieras Motieka (2023) foundations, and is currently receiving a scholarship from the Gidon Kremer Stiftung (2025).
She has participated in masterclasses led by B. Brovtsyn, B. Garlitsky, D. Bidva, D. Sitkovetsky, P. Jüdt, A. Kouyoumdjian, J. Meissl, V. Vujic, D. Ligeti, M. Pensola, L. Hopkins, D. Mommertz, Á. Valdimarsdóttir, and L. Uszyński, among many others.
Saule joined Kremerata Baltica Chamber Orchestra in 2025.
