Gidon Krēmer’s repertoire is extraordinarily vast — it includes almost all the classical and romantic works for violin, as well as contemporary music. The outstanding violinist has premiered many composers' works, many of which were dedicated specifically to him. Among them are two of Pēteris Vasks' most famous concertos, which were premiered together with the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica founded by Krēmer — the violin concerto “The Distant Light”and Meditation for Violin and String Orchestra “The Lonely Angel.”

At the “Pēteris Vasks Music April” festival, Gidon Krēmer will be a guest for the first time, including both Vasks' and other like-minded composers' music in the program, with a particular focus on Arvo Pärt’s talent, who celebrates his 90th anniversary this year.

Once, Latvia and Estonia were called brotherly lands, and in the same way, the international careers of the two countries’ great figures, Pēteris Vasks and Arvo Pärt, have developed in harmony. The music of both composers has become a recognizable brand of their countries, forming the cornerstone of Gidon Krēmer’s and later Kremerata Baltica's repertoire. By regularly performing these masters' works, listeners around the world have come to know and love them.
