During the 2019 Kremerata Baltica Festival in Jurmala we have performed 3 concerts with 3 very different programs.
First concert, named “AUSTRUMU ROBEŽA” ("EASTERN BORDER") focused on the music of Martinu, Enescu, and Lipatti.
The second concert program “Bach and the Baltics” was building connections between the music of JS Bach and Latvian composers Andris Dzenītis, Marģeris Zariņš and Eriks Ešenvalds. During this concert we gave a world premiere to the piece by Andris Dzenītis “Leaves leaving Leipzig” for violin and string orchestra.
The third concert was dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the birth of Mieczysław Weinberg. We performed a project that we developed together with Gidon Kremer “Chronicle of Current Events” – a musical performance with silent visuals based on the music of Mieczysław Weinberg. Gidon Kremer says about this project:
With Chronicle of Current Events it was my intention to tell the life story of Weinberg through his music. [...] In Chronicle of Current Events music and video feed each other, but not in the usual way in which music accompanies what is shown on the canvas. Weinberg’s music comes first in our project. It forms a source of inspiration for the video artists, and enables them to reflect our time. [...] My personal wish is to appeal to the public with an open mind and to appeal to everyone’s heart and imagination. I want to remind people, through music and images, that there is a lot of injustice in our world. I try to create some empathy for that.
